Based on our long experience from offshore oil and gas Dr.techn. Olav Olsen AS has developed several concepts, studies, and solutions for offshore wind-, wave, tide and thermal energy. We have also developed solutions for floating solar energy for extreme conditions such as ice and snow.

The company has developed unique foundation solutions for bottom fixed wind turbines, both in concrete and steel. Our self-floating gravity foundation can be towed from shore with the wind turbine installed and ballasted to the seabed by use of seawater. This eliminates the cost and risk related to offshore lifting operations. Our unique steel jacket design can be equipped with various foundations such as piles, gravity base and suction buckets. Special standardized nodes makes the jacket structure robust towards fatigue loads from wind and waves. The jacket solution is built up from standard structural elements and is particularly suitable for cost-effective mass production.

Olav Olsen has a strong believe in the market for floating offshore wind and has, in addition to assisting Norsk Hydro in the development of Hywind, also developed its own semi-solutions for floating wind, both in steel and concrete.
Within the segment wave-power Olav Olsen has participated in several R & D projects and we have been central in the development of support structures for Langlee Wavepower and AW Energy’s WaveRoller.
